Spirituality in Counseling

Many individuals come to counseling with a "spiritual self" that needs nurturing, healing, or growth.  Therapy provides an opportunity for spiritual development or healing.  If your therapist is trained in Spiritual Integration and/or uses their own spiritual identity in the counseling relationship then your counselor can help you with spiritual development, healing, or growth as part of your therapeutic process.  Some therapists make this aspect of therapy a core focus, while others follow the guidance of the client regarding the level of spiritual incorporation for sessions.

I encourage the client to be the director of this aspect of counseling.  So if you come with spiritual needs, know that you will be supported in your journey of spiritual growth; however, if you do not want to talk about spiritual issues in counseling, this is not something we will spend time exploring unless you decide that it needs to be discussed.

Sara Weber & Spirituality

I am trained in Integration as a Spiritually Sensitive Counselor, which means that I choose to work with people from all walks of faith.  Again, the therapy process is the client's journey so spirituality in session or lack there of is determined by the client.  We may not ever talk about your spirituality, but it is often a topic during therapy.  If you want to know more about what I believe and I how I approach integration please read my full Statement of Faith.

Christian Counselors

Some counselors call themselves Christian Counselors because they have had specific training or they claim their own faith walk as an important part of the services they provide.  If you want to learn more about Christian Counselor's in the Austin Area click on the heading.
